My Julien ancestors lived in a place that is not on any modern maps I’ve found — Middle Fork, Ohio.
A post office named Middle Fork was in existence from 1852-1907. It seems to have been located in the village of Buena Vista, in the northwest quarter of section three of Perry Township in Hocking County, Ohio.1 Buena Vista was laid out in 1848 by Peter Kane (1816-1898).2 He was a gunsmith who owned a fair amount of land in Perry Township, Hocking County, Ohio. He was also the father of two Kane children who married into the Julien family (Lavina Kane married my 3rd great-granduncle, Louis Julien and her brother Jacob married Louis’ sister Emma).
In an 1876 letter from Ephraim Julien to his sister Rhoda Schlotman, Ephraim pens his location as “Middle Fork, Ohio.” The Julien farm was just outside Buena Vista, and so the post office he sent and received mail from would have been Middle Fork.
